Remnants Of Hope: Ghost Towns On The Prairie

Study history, lore and legends of struggling Chase County towns profiled in William Least Heat-Moon's book, "Prairy Erth". Visit Dunlap, home to "Exodusters", Al Le Ga Wa Ho Memorial Park and Council Grove, site of abandoned Kaw Indian Villages.

 
Springtime On The Prairie

Examine the geology of the Flint Hills (named for the limestone 'flints' were made of) and enjoy the sweeping prairie landscape. Field study of the prairie's intricate systems, plants and animals, grasses and fires, ranges and ranch management.

 
Whoopie Ti Yi Yo!: Kansas Folklore And Folksong

Using folklore, history, and personal experience, a master folklorist educates/entertains with essays, tales and songs about life on the plains. Study lyrics and settings to understand daily life, from joy and sadness to outlaws and ornery horses.
